How FLC Started
FULL LIFE CHURCH was conceived by Peter and Rhiannon Goulding back
in September 2003. Having returned to Preston in the summer of 1996, after spending
a great deal of time away involved in various ministries, Peter began to wait on
God and feel the need to see God do something significant in the city of Preston.
Things came to a head at the close of 2001. At that time Pete began to feel an internal
desperation for God to move. He felt God ask him a very direct question, which simply
was, “how much do you want this?”
This lead to a remarkable year in 2002. Pete felt
God impress on him that if he was to grasp what He had, he would have to ‘step up
a level’. The question came, “what can I do next year that I haven’t done this year
to go higher in God?”
the answer came back clearly, “Fast!”
Throughout 2002 Pete
spent the best part of five months in fasting. Five months that included several
7-days; 14-days and 21-days fast including one 40-day fast. After a brief spell
of co-launching a church in the docks area of Preston, Pete and Rhiannon pursued
what was becoming the real passion of their heart, to plant a city-church in the
Deepdale side of Preston.
The day Pete and Rhiannon decided to ‘go for it’ their
“city-church”
comprised of Pete, Rhiannon and their girls! They had no money, no
building and no help! So they both took to the road and spent some time with a couple
of church leaders who had had vast experience in church planting.
Over a period
of three months at the tail end of 2003, three other couples with extensive Leadership
experience joined Pete & Rhiannon to see the vision of a city church become
a reality. Rhiannon recommended an approach to Preston North End as a possible venue
and Pete decided to call the church Full Life Church, as the phrase comprised his
and Rhiannon’s conviction of the LIFE God has called each of us to live! John 10:10
has become the church’s signature scripture!
Sunday January 25th 2004 saw the official
launch of Full Life Church. Since that day they have continued to meet every Sunday
in the Heathcotes Conference Centre within the PNE stadium.
